A contempt petition has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the growing VIP culture and use of red beacons on vehicles in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. While hearing it, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Punjab and Haryana and the Chandigarh Administration and sought their response in the matter.
Let us tell you that Advocate Nikhil Saraf said in the petition that in a petition filed in the Supreme Court in 2013 and later in 2017, the Central Government had banned the use of red beacons on government and private vehicles to end the VIP culture.
Despite this, government officials in Punjab are openly using red beacons on their vehicles. The petitioner says that this is a direct violation of the orders of the Supreme Court and the Central Government. This contempt petition has been filed demanding an immediate ban on this practice.
The High Court, while hearing the petition, has issued notices to the Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Haryana and the Advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator in this matter and has sought their response by January 29.
