Petrol and Diesel Prices Rise Again in Punjab: Fourth Hike in 10 Days Pushes Petrol Up by ₹2.60

Ludhiana: Petrol and diesel prices in Punjab and Chandigarh have witnessed yet another hike. The price of petrol has been increased by ₹2.60 per liter, while diesel prices have gone up by ₹2.70 per liter.

In Mohali, the price of petrol has reached a high of ₹105.99 per liter. Prior to this, prices had also been raised on May 15, May 19, and May 23.

In Chandigarh, petrol is now retailing at ₹101.53 per liter and diesel at ₹89.63 per liter. In Punjab, petrol prices have risen to ₹105.44 per liter and diesel to ₹95.38 per liter. The rising cost of petrol and diesel has a direct impact on the transportation sector.

Impact on Transport and Daily Commodities

Following the hike in fuel prices, apprehensions are being raised regarding potential increases in fares for taxis, auto-rickshaws, and freight transport services. The prices of vegetables, groceries, and daily essentials are also likely to rise. Traders state that the continuously rising fuel rates are driving up freight costs, which will inevitably lead to an increase in the prices of daily-use commodities.

Rising Household Expenses and Inflation Concerns

If local-level transportation charges increase, consumer prices will rise even further. This could potentially cause household kitchen budgets to swell by 10% to 15%.

The price of milk, for instance, has already gone up by ₹2 recently. If a household typically spends between ₹10,000 and ₹12,000 on groceries and other essential supplies, that monthly expenditure could now rise to between ₹11,000 and ₹13,000.
