Tension erupted in Phaguwala village, Sangrur district, after police detained three local youths following the viral circulation of a video connected to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann by Canadian citizen Jagman Samra.
The detained individuals have been identified as Ravinder Singh Ravi, Rupinder Singh Romi, and Jaswinder Singh Jassi.
Villagers Protest against this action
Following the detentions, panic spread through the village, with three families reportedly vacating their homes in protest. The arrests triggered strong outrage among residents, who convened a village meeting led by halka incharge Vinerjeet Singh Goldy to demand the youths’ release.
Villagers said arrests are Politically Motivated
During protest, Villagers asserted that the three youths had no links with Jagman Samra, the Canadian individual who shared the viral video. They said the detained men were farmers and small business owners with no political or online involvement in the matter.
Villagers further alleged that the arrests were made on false grounds and at the behest of the Punjab Government to suppress dissent.
Protest Threat if Youths Not Released
Addressing the gathering, Vinerjeet Singh Goldy warned authorities that if the detained youths were not released immediately, villagers would intensify the protest at the state level.
The situation in Phaguwala remains tense, with police presence in the area to maintain order.
