A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Panshta, a village near Phagwara in Jalandhar. An 11-year-old boy took his own life simply because he wasn’t given a “Chinese Manjha” for flying kites.
The house where the elder brother’s birthday celebrations were planned is now shrouded in grief as the younger son’s funeral procession is being prepared, sending a wave of sorrow throughout the entire area.
According to reports, preparations were underway at the home of Jarnail Singh in Panshta for his elder son’s birthday. There was an atmosphere of excitement in the house, but amidst this, Jarnail Singh’s 11-year-old younger son insisted on flying a kite.
The child was demanding “Chinese manjha” from the market. His family refused to give him the thread, as it is banned and dangerous, and tried to reason with him. They tried to pacify him and sent him to his room to study, hoping he would abandon his demand.
Family members shocked after breaking down the door
When the child did not come out of his room even after a considerable time, his family members became worried. They called out to him from outside the room, but received no response. When they tried to open the door, they found it locked from the inside. Fearing the worst, the family members broke down the door after much effort. As soon as they entered, they found the innocent child hanging from a pipe used for the curtains in the room.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the in-charge of the Panshta police post, Gurdeep Singh, arrived at the scene with his team. The police took the body down from the noose and sent it to the hospital for a post-mortem examination. In-charge Gurdeep Singh stated that the preliminary investigation suggests the incident was a suicide committed in anger after his demand was not met.
After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family. The police are seriously investigating every aspect of the case to determine the true reasons behind the incident.
