Physical Copies of Union Budget 2026 Brought to Parliament

Ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget 2026–27 in the Lok Sabha, physical copies of the Budget documents were brought to Parliament House in New Delhi on Sunday. Although digital copies are widely used and live streaming of the speech is available online, printed versions of key Budget paperwork were formally delivered for parliamentary scrutiny.

The physical Budget documents include essential records that will be tabled during the session, allowing Members of Parliament to refer directly to figures and proposals as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman delivers her Budget speech later in the day.

Union Budget 2026 Context and Timeline

The Union Budget 2026–27 is scheduled to be presented around 11 a.m. in the Lok Sabha, marking a rare Sunday presentation and the ninth consecutive Budget speech by Sitharaman.

Before Budget Day, preparatory traditions such as the Halwa Ceremony which symbolizes the final stages of printing and preparation take place to acknowledge the hard work of officials involved in compiling the Budget.

Importance of Physical Budget Copies in Parliament

Despite advances in digital formats and online accessibility, printed Budget documents remain important for legislative procedure. MPs often refer to these hard copies for detailed discussions during debates and committee reviews after the Finance Minister’s speech.

Once the Budget speech concludes, additional materials such as the Annual Financial Statement, Finance Bill, Demands for Grants, and other explanatory notes are tabled and debated as required under parliamentary rules.
