PM Modi Assures Help to Flood-Hit Punjab in Call with CM Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh, Sep 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on phone as soon as he returned from his foreign tour. He enquired about the situation arising due to rain and floods in Punjab and assured all possible help.

12 districts of Punjab are affected by floods. About 2.56 lakh people have been directly affected and 29 people have died so far.

Chief Minister Mann had also written a letter to the PM, in which he demanded the Centre to release the outstanding funds of Rs 60 thousand crores and to increase the compensation to farmers up to Rs 50 thousand by changing the SDRF rules.

Earlier yesterday morning, the Home Minister of the country Amit Shah had called Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. He also took stock of the damage caused by the floods in Punjab. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that two days ago CM Bhagwant Mann had written a letter to the Prime Minister.

Also, they had demanded their 60 thousand crore rupees. All the details were given in the letter. Today, as soon as the Home Minister came to know through the media, he called. But he did not give any assurance that we will release 60 thousand crores.

At the same time, he had alleged that the Prime Minister tweets on small issues of the country, wishes people on their birthdays, but Punjab is facing a huge problem. But the national leadership of BJP has not spoken even two words of sympathy. They are sitting silently and watching Punjab getting ruined.
