Tamil Nadu: Chennai has been placed under a five-tier security arrangement involving 15,000 police personnel ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Sunday, October 11. Security has been strengthened at programme venues, transport hubs and along the routes the Prime Minister is expected to travel.
The Greater Chennai Police have intensified surveillance and security checks across the city as preparations continue for the visit. The arrangements cover Chennai airport, Porur Bypass Metro railway station, IIT-Madras campus in Kotturpuram, Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam and Guindy Lok Bhavan, along with nearby areas.
Senior Police Officers Review Security Arrangements
Police Commissioner A. Amalraj reviewed the preparations during a meeting with senior officers at the Commissionerate in Vepery on Friday. Discussions focused on security deployment and arrangements at the locations the Prime Minister is expected to visit during his stay in Chennai.
The deployment includes additional, joint, deputy and assistant commissioners of police, supported by personnel from the law and order, crime and traffic wings. Armed reserve personnel, commandos and members of the Tamil Nadu Special Police will also take part in the security operation.
Vehicle Checks Intensified, Hotels and Guest Houses Inspected
Police have increased surveillance along major roads expected to be used by the Prime Minister. Vehicle checks have also been strengthened across Chennai, with officers monitoring movement ahead of his arrival.
Inspection teams are checking lodges, guest houses, star hotels and other accommodation facilities to identify suspicious persons. Railway stations, Metro stations and bus terminals have also been placed under heightened security.
The measures extend beyond the scheduled programme venues to public transport facilities and surrounding neighbourhoods as part of the citywide security plan.
Drone Restrictions in Five Areas of Chennai
Police have declared areas around Meenambakkam, Guindy, Kotturpuram, Porur and Nandambakkam as red zones on October 10 ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
The restrictions also cover designated routes associated with his movement. Flying drone cameras and other unmanned aerial objects will be prohibited within the notified areas.
The security arrangements combine a large police deployment with intensified inspections, vehicle checks and surveillance across key locations and transport networks before the Prime Minister’s arrival.
