Taking to social media platform X in Hindi, PM Modi described Upadhyaya as a practitioner of national service and recalled his emphasis on the upliftment of the person standing at the last row of society.

“My humble salutations to the true practitioner of national service, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya ji, on his birth anniversary. He regarded the upliftment of the person standing in the last row of society as the foundation of nation-building and gave us the philosophy of Antyodaya, which continues to provide profound inspiration for public welfare even today,” Modi said.

He also called for reaffirming the resolve to follow Upadhyaya’s thoughts and ideals and fulfil social and national responsibilities.

Yogi Adityanath Highlights Integral Humanism, Antyodaya

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to Upadhyaya, describing him as a pioneer of “Integral Humanism” and “Antyodaya”, a nationalist thinker and a founding member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

Adityanath said Upadhyaya presented a concept of development rooted in Indian culture and life values, with priority given to the upliftment of the person standing in the last row of society.

He said Upadhyaya’s thought continues to inspire efforts towards building an inclusive, self-reliant and developed India.

Fadnavis, Pralhad Joshi Remember Deendayal Upadhyaya

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also remembered Upadhyaya on his birth anniversary, describing him as a guiding force behind the vision of Antyodaya and a source of inspiration.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi recalled Upadhyaya as a guiding figure in Indian political thought and highlighted his concept of “Ekatma Manavvad” (Integral Humanism).

Joshi said the philosophy serves as a foundation for socio-economic development aimed at ensuring that development reaches the last person in the queue. He also reiterated the importance of the vision of Antyodaya in building an inclusive, self-reliant and prosperous India.

Who Was Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya?

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, born on September 25, 1916, was a politician, philosopher and prominent leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor of the modern Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He died on February 11, 1968.
