PM Modi Flags Off India’s First Hydrogen Train, Launches ₹14,700 Crore Projects from Jind

Jind, Haryana: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered train from Jind in Haryana, marking a major step towards clean energy-based transportation in the country.

The 10-coach hydrogen fuel cell train, operating between Jind and Sonipat, will cover a distance of 90 km in around two hours. The train uses a hydrogen fuel cell system to generate electricity onboard and emits only water vapour, making it an environment-friendly mode of transport.

Hydrogen Train Marks New Era in Green Mobility

The hydrogen-powered train is equipped with a 3,200 HP propulsion system, making it one of the most powerful hydrogen trainsets in operation globally. The project has been developed using indigenous technology, with design and assembly carried out within India.

The launch reflects Indian Railways’ transition from traditional coal and diesel-based systems towards cleaner energy sources. Over the past decade, large-scale electrification of railway routes has reduced dependence on diesel, paving the way for alternative fuel technologies.

PM Modi Launches Highway Projects Worth Over ₹12,470 Crore

Along with the hydrogen train launch, Prime Minister Modi also dedicated and laid the foundation stones of multiple road infrastructure projects worth more than ₹12,470 crore in Haryana.

Among the key projects was the 157.92-km four-lane Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, developed at a cost of around ₹9,680 crore. The greenfield corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Katra from nearly 14 hours to about six hours and cut the Delhi-Amritsar journey from around eight hours to four hours.

The expressway is also expected to reduce traffic pressure on NH-44, boost tourism and pilgrimage connectivity, and support industrial and logistics growth along the route.

New Highways, Railway Track and Healthcare Projects Inaugurated

The Prime Minister also dedicated the 33.81-km Ambala-Kala Amb Highway and the 40.60-km Jind-Gohana Greenfield Highway, which aim to improve connectivity between Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and the Delhi-NCR region.

The foundation stone was also laid for the 24.27-km Hansi-Barwala Brownfield Highway Project, which will upgrade the existing road infrastructure.

PM Modi further dedicated the Elevated Railway Track in Kurukshetra, a project aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving road safety and ensuring smoother movement of both rail and road traffic.

Medical Institutions and Sikh Museum Projects Announced

During the programme, the Prime Minister also dedicated major healthcare institutions, including Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College in Bhiwani, Maharishi Chyawan Medical College and Rao Tula Ram Hospital in Koriawas, Narnaul.

These institutions are expected to expand medical education facilities, increase MBBS seats and improve healthcare access in Haryana.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of the Sikh Museum in Kurukshetra, which will showcase Sikh history, the teachings of Sikh Gurus, their sacrifices and contributions to Indian culture through modern technology.
