PM Modi Arrives in Gangtok; Traffic Restrictions Imposed Ahead of Project Launches

Gangtok: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Gangtok on Monday for a two-day visit to Sikkim, with authorities imposing traffic restrictions and heightened security across the city ahead of his scheduled public engagements and project inaugurations.

Traffic Restrictions in Key Areas

Sikkim Police has restricted vehicular movement on multiple routes in Gangtok, including a key National Highway stretch between Ganju Lama Dwar and Zero Point, to facilitate the Prime Minister’s convoy movement. Authorities said the restrictions will remain in force during VVIP movement and normal traffic will resume after security clearance.

Projects Worth Over ₹4,000 Crore to Be Unveiled

During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate, dedicate and lay foundation stones for multiple development projects worth more than ₹4,000 crore across Sikkim. The projects span infrastructure, healthcare, education, connectivity, tourism, agriculture and urban development sectors.

To Attend Sikkim Statehood Event

The Prime Minister will also participate in the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s 50th Year of Statehood celebrations at Paljor Stadium, where he is scheduled to address the gathering.

Security Tightened Across Capital

Heavy deployment of police and surveillance teams has been put in place across Gangtok to ensure smooth conduct of the high-profile visit. Officials have advised commuters to plan travel accordingly.
