New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Delhi-Dehradun Expressway on Tuesday, which will strengthen connectivity between the national capital and the capital of Uttarakhand.
Built at a cost of approximately ₹12,000 crore, the 210-km-long expressway begins near the Akshardham Temple and extends to Dehradun, passing through cities like Baghpat, Baraut, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, and Saharanpur.
Travel time reduced to 2.5 hours, will become the fastest option
The biggest highlight of this project is the significant reduction in travel time. Currently, the journey from Delhi to Dehradun by road takes approximately 6 hours, which will now be reduced to approximately 2.5 hours.
With improved connectivity, this route could become a more time-efficient option than trains like Vande Bharat and Shatabdi, and even air travel.
High-Speed Design and Modern Facilities
The expressway has been designed for high-speed and seamless travel, including 7 interchanges, 2 rail overbridges, and 10 major bridges.
For the convenience of passengers, 14 wayside amenities such as rest areas, food courts, fuel stations, and washrooms are also being developed.
Special Arrangements for Environmental Protection
Special attention has been paid to the environment along the section passing through Rajaji National Park. A 12-km-long elevated corridor has been constructed here to minimize damage to wildlife.
In addition, two large elephant underpasses and six other animal crossings have also been constructed, ensuring both development and environmental protection.
