PM Modi Flags Off Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Meerut in Uttar Pradesh today to inaugurate the remaining sections of the 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and flag off the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train services. The event marks the completion of India’s first RRTS project aimed at transforming intercity connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Flagging Off at Shatabdi Nagar Station

Modi will begin the ceremony at the Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station around 12:30 PM, where he will flag off both the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat Train. He is expected to undertake a metro ride up to Meerut South Station as part of the inauguration schedule.

New Sections and Connectivity Boost

The remaining sections to be inaugurated include the 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and the 21-km stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh completing the full corridor. With a design speed of up to 180 km/h, the Namo Bharat system will significantly shorten travel time between Delhi and Meerut, offering commuters a rapid, comfortable transport option.

Regional Development and Additional Projects

Along with the transit services, the Prime Minister will dedicate various development projects worth around ₹12,930 crore to the nation. The integrated services aim to not only improve passenger transit but also spur economic activity and urban growth across the NCR including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut.

Government and Local Focus on Infrastructure

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to be present at the event, underlining the state government’s focus on strengthening transportation infrastructure. The expanded metro and rapid transit services are being touted as a major improvement for daily commuters and long-distance travellers alike.
