PM Modi Praises Lovlina Borgohain for Raising Objection Over Distorted India Map in Glasgow

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised boxer Lovlina Borgohain on Monday. Lovlina had objected to the incorrect map of India being displayed at a Glasgow restaurant during the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The Prime Minister mentioned this incident during his meeting with Commonwealth champions returning from Scotland.

PM Modi asked – Why did you argue with the restaurant owner?

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi asked Lovlina about the incident at the restaurant. The Assamese boxer, who won a silver medal in the 75 kg category, said she was celebrating her victory with the Indian boxing team when she saw the incorrect map.

Lovlina said she was upset to see the Northeast part of India missing from the map. She politely spoke to the restaurant staff about the incident, and the restaurant later changed the map.

The matter came to light when Lovlina noticed an incorrect map of India on the menu at a Glasgow restaurant. The team had gone there to celebrate the Indian boxing team’s impressive success at the Commonwealth Games.

Lovlina told the restaurant management that the Northeast was not included on the map of India. She said that being from the Northeast, she was deeply saddened by this.

Restaurant apologizes, promises to change the map

After the matter went viral on social media, Mr. Singh’s India apologized for the incorrect map. The restaurant said it would include the correct map of India in its logo.

The Indian Embassy in Glasgow also took cognizance of the matter and raised the issue with the restaurant management. Prime Minister Modi praised Lovlina’s move, saying that even while celebrating her victory, she recognized the importance of the map, which is a commendable thing.
