₹1,600 Cr Relief an Insult to Punjab Farmers: AAP

Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ₹1,600 crore relief package announced for flood-hit Punjab, terming it an “insult” to the state’s farmers.

In a strongly worded statement, AAP said that more than 22 days have passed since devastating floods struck Punjab, yet the Prime Minister’s long-awaited visit brought little relief. “Millions of food providers in Punjab have suffered losses worth thousands of crores, but Modi Ji has given only ₹1,600 crore,” the party said.

The party compared the package with what it alleged were massive waivers granted to corporate houses. “On one hand, Modi Ji waives off ₹10 lakh crore debt of his capitalist friends. On the other, for farmers who suffered devastating losses, he has come with just a few rupees,” AAP said.

Calling Punjab the food bowl of India, the party accused the Centre of deliberately ignoring the state’s plight. “This is an insult to Punjab and its farmers. Modi Ji has once again betrayed the annadatas who feed the nation,” the statement read.

The remarks come amid growing political debate over the adequacy of the Centre’s assistance. Several Punjab leaders have already urged the Prime Minister to enhance the relief, arguing that the state’s losses run into tens of thousands of crores.
