    PM Modi said, “Chips made in India are now reaching the world

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that semiconductor chips manufactured in India are now reaching markets both domestically and globally. He highlighted the progress made in India’s semiconductor sector while inaugurating SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi.

    India Moving Forward in the Semiconductor Sector

    PM Modi said that India’s semiconductor program is no longer limited to plans and policies. Work has progressed in the country from pilot production to commercial manufacturing. He also highlighted the progress of semiconductor projects underway in various regions.

    Production begins at five semiconductor units

    According to the government, 12 semiconductor manufacturing units have been approved under Semicon 1.0, launched in 2021 with a budget of ₹76,000 crore. These units involve investments of over ₹1.64 lakh crore. Commercial production has already begun at five of these units.

    Next phase under Semicon 2.0

    The central government has approved a budget of ₹1,27,500 crore for Semicon 2.0. This initiative will focus on developing semiconductor manufacturing, chip design, research, advanced packaging, equipment and materials, as well as skilled talent.

    PM Modi said that the government is working towards strengthening India’s role in the global semiconductor supply chain and making the country a trusted hub for semiconductor manufacturing.
