PM Modi to join Shri Ram College of Commerce centenary celebrations today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the centenary celebrations of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in New Delhi on Saturday, marking 100 years of the prestigious institution’s contribution to higher education in India.

The centenary event is scheduled to begin at around 7 p.m. on the SRCC campus. Prime Minister Modi will address the gathering and speak about the significance of the institution’s century-long academic journey and its contribution to the country.

SRCC completes 100 years of academic excellence

Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi, is regarded as one of India’s premier institutions for higher education, particularly in Commerce, Economics and Management.

Founded in 1926 by industrialist and philanthropist Sir Shri Ram, the institution has played a significant role in shaping generations of scholars, professionals, administrators, entrepreneurs, policymakers and other nation-builders.

The institution traces its origins to 1926, when the Commercial College became affiliated with the University of Delhi. In 1932, it was upgraded to the status of a Degree College and began awarding the B.A. (Pass) (Commerce Group) degree of the University.

From Commercial College to Shri Ram College of Commerce

In 1951, during the institution’s Silver Jubilee year, the Commercial College decided to specialise in Commerce and Economics. It was subsequently renamed Shri Ram College of Commerce in recognition of the contribution of its founder, Sir Shri Ram.

Over the decades, SRCC has established a strong reputation for commerce and economics education. Its alumni have made their mark across business, public administration, policymaking, entrepreneurship, academia and several other fields.

The centenary celebrations will provide an opportunity to look back at SRCC’s 100-year academic journey and its contribution to India’s educational landscape, while highlighting its role in preparing students for professional and leadership responsibilities.

    PM Modi’s previous SRCC visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had last visited Shri Ram College of Commerce in 2013, when he was serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

The SRCC centenary celebrations are also being held on Teachers’ Day, observed across India on September 5 every year. The occasion adds significance to the event as the country acknowledges the contribution of teachers and educators in shaping generations and strengthening society.
