PM Modi Embarks on Three-Nation Tour to Strengthen Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday departed on a three-nation visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, saying the tour will reinforce India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

The visit, scheduled from July 6 to July 12, aims to deepen India’s strategic, economic and cultural partnerships with the three Indo-Pacific nations.

Indonesia Visit to Focus on Strategic and Cultural Ties

PM Modi will begin his visit in Indonesia from July 6 to 8 at the invitation of President Prabowo Subianto.

In his departure statement, the Prime Minister said India and Indonesia elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during his 2018 visit, and this would be his first bilateral visit since then.

He noted that President Prabowo’s visit as the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations in January 2025 had further strengthened bilateral ties.

During the visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with the Indonesian President, interact with the Indian diaspora, and visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, highlighting the deep civilisational and cultural links between the two countries.

Australia, New Zealand Visits to Deepen Cooperation

After Indonesia, PM Modi will travel to Melbourne at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The two leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on defence and security, trade and investment, education, mobility, emerging technologies, sports and people-to-people ties.

The Prime Minister will also meet members of the Indian diaspora in Melbourne, describing them as a vital pillar of India-Australia relations.

From Australia, PM Modi will head to Auckland at the invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.

He said the visit would build on the momentum created during Luxon’s visit to India in March 2025.

The leaders are expected to discuss expanding economic and commercial cooperation, including progress on the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA), while also exploring new opportunities to boost bilateral trade.

PM Modi will also address members of the Indian community in New Zealand, acknowledging their contribution to strengthening ties between the two countries.

Concluding his departure statement, the Prime Minister said the visits to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand would further advance India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and shared commitment to ensuring peace, stability and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region.
