PM Modi to lay foundation stones for 13 projects worth over Rs 5,127 crore in Arunachal tomorrow

Itanagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh on Monday to launch and lay the foundation stones of 13 development projects worth over ₹5,127 crore, before addressing a massive public gathering at Indira Gandhi Park here, officials said on Sunday.

Preparations are in full swing, with roads being beautified and multiple stages being set up. Security has been tightened in the capital and adjoining areas.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, reviewing arrangements at IG Park, posted on X: “Never before has Arunachal seen such consistent attention from a Prime Minister. Eager to welcome Hon’ble PM Modi Ji as he inaugurates and lays the foundation for key projects that will transform every corner of Arunachal.”

Big Push for Power & Connectivity
PM Modi will virtually lay the foundation for the 186-MW Tato-I and 240-MW Heo hydroelectric projects over the Yarjep River in Shi Yomi district, built at a combined cost of ₹3,689 crore. Together, they are expected to generate 1,803 million units annually, with the state receiving free power worth over ₹98 crore and a Local Area Development Fund of ₹16 crore every year.

He will also virtually inaugurate a ₹147 crore state-of-the-art Integrated Convention Centre at Tawang, expected to boost tourism, services, and handicrafts.

Strategic Frontier Highway & VVP-II
Among the key announcements is the 1,830-km Frontier Highway project, which will run parallel to the McMahon Line from Bomdila (West Kameng) to Vijaynagar (Changlang). Officials said the highway will significantly strengthen national security and border connectivity.

The Prime Minister will also roll out the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP-II), under which 122 border villages will receive all-weather roads, 4G telecom, and on-grid power. Of these, 67 villages are along the India-Myanmar border and 55 along the India-Bhutan border.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned ₹2,205 crore for VVP-II. With an overall outlay of ₹6,839 crore, the programme will be implemented in strategic villages across 18 states and Union Territories till 2028-29, aiming to provide livelihood opportunities, better living conditions, and strengthen border security by integrating local populations as “eyes and ears” of security forces.

Multiple Infrastructure Boosts
Besides power and border initiatives, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 10 other infrastructure projects worth ₹1,291 crore, spanning roads, civic facilities, and connectivity.

After his Arunachal visit, the Prime Minister will travel to Tripura later on Monday.
