PM Modi’s Emphasis on Women’s Empowerment

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that although he is not a householder, he understands domestic life and that women are becoming economically empowered through various government schemes.

Addressing the Nari Shakti Vandan Conference held at Vigyan Bhawan, the Prime Minister said that the path for women to reach Parliament is now going to be easier and their role has become even more important.

He said, “Parliament is on the threshold of creating a new history, one that will realize the dreams of the past and fulfill the resolutions of the future.”

Women’s Reservation and Political Participation
He said that the government’s priority is to pass the amendment bill to the Nari Shakti Vandan Act through dialogue, cooperation, and all-out participation.

The Prime Minister pointed out that when the Act was introduced in 2023, it was passed unanimously by all parties in Parliament.

He described Panchayati Raj institutions as a shining example of women’s leadership and said that India’s women power has made a significant contribution to nation-building.

Women’s Empowerment through Schemes
The Prime Minister said that the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission is an example of the important role women have played at the Panchayat level. He said that increased participation of women in the decision-making process also increases sensitivity and accountability.

He mentioned several major schemes that have benefited women, such as the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Save the Girl Child), Maternity Benefit Scheme, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, and Mission Indradhanush.

The Prime Minister said that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched to address the lack of toilets in schools. Furthermore, the government provides free sanitary pads, an annual assistance of ₹100,000 for sports, and has also opened Sainik Schools for girls.

The Ujjwala Yojana protects women from kitchen smoke for their future, the Har Ghar Nal Yojana provides clean water, and the Ayushman Yojana provides free medical treatment up to ₹500,000.

He said, “Our sisters and daughters are benefiting the most from all these schemes.” He also pointed out that more than 30 million women have become homeowners under government housing schemes.

The Beginning of a New Era and Appeal
The Prime Minister said, “Earlier, when a father and son would discuss business and the mother would enter the room, they would be told to leave. But now that women have become economically empowered, even sons say, ‘Call your mother.'”

He smiled and said, “I am not a householder, but I understand every aspect of domestic life.” He congratulated all the women of the country on the beginning of a new era.

The Prime Minister said that the need for reservation for women in democracy has been felt for decades and has been under discussion for nearly 40 years. He said that this law was passed unanimously in 2023 and there is also an agreement to implement it by 2029.

He appealed to women to meet their MPs, share their expectations, and bless them when they leave for Parliament, so they can make the right decisions.

A special session of Parliament has been called from April 16th to 18th, during which an amendment will be introduced to implement women’s reservation. The new amendment will increase the number of Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 816, with one-third reserved for women.

The government is preparing to introduce two major amendments, including a delimitation bill. Prime Minister Modi appealed to all parties to support this historic move so that women’s power can play a greater role in building a developed India.
