PMGSY: 294 Roads Spanning 1,538 Kilometers to be Constructed in Himachal; tender issued

Phase 4 of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has commenced in Himachal Pradesh. Under this phase, tender notices have been issued for the construction and expansion of 294 roads across the state.

Through these projects, emphasis will be placed on providing improved road connectivity to remote villages. The Central Government has sanctioned an amount of approximately ₹2,247 crore to Himachal Pradesh for the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Under this scheme, roads spanning a total length of 1,538 kilometers will be constructed.

This phase focuses specifically on connecting settlements which currently lack adequate transportation facilities to the road network. Under the scheme, approximately 250 settlements in the state will be connected by paved roads for the very first time. This will facilitate easier access to education, healthcare, and other essential services for people residing in rural areas.

The projects for which tenders have been invited include not only the construction of new roads but also the widening and strengthening of several existing routes.

In accordance with the Central Government’s guidelines, special attention will be paid to technical standards to ensure better connectivity in hilly regions, thereby ensuring the long-term durability of the roads. Under the PMGSY, thousands of kilometers of roads have already been constructed in the state during the preceding Phases 1, 2, and 3.
