Poet Kumar Vishwas wife Manju Sharma resigns from RPSC after HC says she ‘compromised integrity’ of 2021 SI recruitment exam

Rajasthan: Public Service Commission (RPSC) member Manju Sharma, wife of poet and former AAP leader Kumar Vishwas, has resigned from her post following critical observations by the Rajasthan High Court in the 2021 Sub Inspector recruitment case.

Resignation Letter to Governor

In her letter to Governor Haribhau Bagade, Sharma said she had served with “utmost transparency and honesty” but that the recent controversy had tarnished her personal reputation and the dignity of the Commission. She stressed that no investigation or criminal case was pending against her and that she had never been named as an accused.

Sharma added that, “being always in favour of purity in public life” and prioritising the Commission’s dignity, impartiality, and transparency, she was voluntarily stepping down.

High Court’s Strong Observations

The Rajasthan High Court, in its August 28 order cancelling the 2021 SI recruitment, said Sharma and other RPSC members had compromised the integrity of the examination through “active participation in, or knowledge of, the leakage of papers and prejudicing of the interview process”.

The court described as “alarming” the “active connivance and involvement” of Sharma and other members, noting that the charge sheet suggested they were aware of transactions and malpractices for personal gain. It also cited interactions between former RPSC member Ramuram Raika and Sharma regarding his children’s interviews as indicative of systemic corruption.

Career and Controversial Appointment

Sharma holds a PhD and an MA in Geography and previously served as an Associate Professor at MSJ PG College in Bharatpur. Her October 2020 appointment to the RPSC was itself contentious, as the then Ashok Gehlot government faced criticism from some within the Congress for appointing her despite her husband’s staunch criticism of the party and leadership.

With a six-year term, Sharma’s tenure was scheduled to run until October 2026.
