Police Deployed Outside Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Residence After FIR, TVK Protest Call

Chennai: Security was tightened outside the residence of Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin in Chennai’s Neelankarai on Tuesday after an FIR was registered against him over alleged derogatory remarks aimed at Chief Minister Vijay. The deployment came as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) announced statewide protests, accusing the DMK leader of making inappropriate comments during a recent political rally.

TVK Women’s Wing Files Police Complaint

The controversy escalated after the women’s wing of TVK lodged a complaint at the Thanjavur police station, accusing Udhayanidhi of making objectionable comments during his speech. The party demanded strict legal action, claiming that the remarks were derogatory and unacceptable.

Following the complaint, TVK announced statewide demonstrations on Tuesday, prompting authorities to increase security around Udhayanidhi’s residence and other sensitive locations to prevent any untoward incidents.

Police maintained a strong presence in the area to ensure public order as party workers prepared for protests across Tamil Nadu.

Political Row Intensifies Over Cauvery Rally Speech

The controversy stems from a recent DMK protest in Thanjavur, where Udhayanidhi Stalin criticised Chief Minister Vijay over his handling of the Cauvery water-sharing dispute with Karnataka. During the event, slogans related to actor Trisha Krishnan were allegedly raised, leading to sharp criticism from TVK leaders.

The incident has triggered a political confrontation between the ruling DMK and TVK, with the opposition accusing Udhayanidhi of lowering the standards of political discourse.

TVK Leaders Condemn Alleged Remarks

Reacting strongly to the controversy, TVK MLA Rhevanth Charan described the alleged remarks as “absolutely disgusting” in a post on X.

He stated that making such comments against anyone was completely unacceptable and alleged that the incident reflected the political culture of the DMK leadership. Charan also claimed that the DMK had resorted to provocation after its protest campaign failed to gain traction.

The developments have further intensified political tensions in Tamil Nadu, with TVK proceeding with its planned protests while police continue to monitor the situation closely. Authorities have urged supporters of all political parties to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement.
