New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Chief Minister of Delhi, has condemned the idea of a “double-engine government,” claiming it will harm the poor and middle class.

During a press conference, Kejriwal stated, “If such a government comes to power, it will crush everyone under its wheels— the poor, the middle class, everyone.”

He also criticized Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, accusing him of partiality. “People have fought hard for free and fair elections, but the Election Commission’s apparent surrender to the BJP raises serious concerns. It feels like the Election Commission is non-existent,” he remarked.

Kejriwal questioned whether Kumar was being promised a lucrative post-retirement position, suggesting, “What has he been promised that he is willing to jeopardize democracy? Is it a governorship or even the presidency?”

He urged Kumar to uphold his integrity, saying, “After serving for 40-45 years, do not sacrifice democracy for personal gain.”

Additionally, Kejriwal expressed concern over alleged attacks on AAP workers, volunteers, and journalists in Delhi. He noted, “People are questioning the origin of this violence. AAP workers are being threatened and coerced into joining the BJP.”

He highlighted the increasing violence against his party members and the public, stating, “There are open fights and assaults while the police seem to stand by.”

Kejriwal also addressed the police’s inaction, quoting their response to inquiries about their lack of action: “There is an order from above. So, who are they afraid of?”

He further condemned the police’s treatment of journalists, mentioning recent assaults on reporters, including one who suffered a head injury and another who was detained overnight, while the attackers were released.

Kejriwal asserted that there have been attacks on AAP’s female campaigners and vandalism of their vehicles, expressing confidence that the public is determined to stand against such violence.
