Contract employees of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) have gone on an indefinite strike from today. They have announced to hold a permanent protest outside the house of Power Minister Sanjeev Arora. Contract employees from across Punjab will start the protest at 11 am.
The strike will affect the power supply, as these employees are responsible for resolving complaints with Powercom.
The minister’s house will be surrounded
After the protest on October 28, the Ludhiana administration had scheduled a meeting on November 6. However, the Powercom management refused to hold the meeting by issuing a letter on November 5. Following this, the union announced to hold an indefinite protest outside the house of Power Minister Sanjeev Arora from the morning of November 7.
There will be a big protest in Ludhiana
The union has said that no one will back down, and the protest will continue until the government accepts their demands. They have also announced to hold a flag march in the Tarn Taran assembly by-election constituency on November 9. The government is accused of promoting privatization
Union leaders said that the Punjab government and the power department are moving towards privatization at a rapid pace. Through the policy of selling Powercom buildings and properties, promoting contract companies, and installing chip-based smart meters, the department is gradually being handed over to private hands.
They demanded the complete repeal of the central government’s Electricity Amendment Bill 2025, saying that this bill is a conspiracy to hand over the power sector to corporate houses.
