Kasugai: Indian golfer Pranavi Urs created history at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games on Saturday by winning the women’s individual stroke play gold medal, becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold at the Asian Games.
Pranavi shot an even-par 70 in the final round to finish at 15-under 265 over four days at the Kasugai Country Club East Course and claim the gold medal.
Pranavi stages comeback to win gold
Pranavi entered the final round with a three-stroke lead over Singapore’s Shannon Tan. However, a triple bogey on the third hole saw her drop to second place and put the gold medal race under pressure.
The Indian golfer responded strongly, producing birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th holes to regain the lead. She then finished the 18th hole at even par to seal the historic gold.
China’s Yin Ruoning and Singapore’s Shannon Tan finished on 14-under par to share the silver medal.
India women win team silver
Pranavi also played a key role in India’s women’s team winning the silver medal in the team event.
The Indian women’s team finished with a combined score of 14-under 546 over the four-day competition. It marked India’s first medal in the women’s team golf event at the Asian Games.
Apart from Pranavi, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar represented India in the women’s competition.
Aditi finished 14th with a total score of two-over 282 after shooting a three-under 67 in the final round. Diksha finished joint 23rd after carding seven-over in the final round and ending the competition 12-over overall.
Historic double medal for Indian women’s golf
Pranavi and the Indian women’s team entered the final day with hopes of securing medals in both the individual and team competitions.
Pranavi eventually delivered India’s historic individual gold, while the women’s team added a silver to complete a memorable medal haul for Indian golf at the Asian Games.
The achievement also came after Aditi had started the final round in first place before dropping to second and finishing with a silver medal.
