President Murmu, CM Rekha Gupta, and LG Saxena Join Delhi in Chhath Puja Celebrations

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday participated in Chhath Puja celebrations at the President’s Estate, where devotees offered Arghya to the setting Sun. The President prayed for the well-being and prosperity of all citizens, an official statement said.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena met the President and extended greetings on the occasion of Chhath. In a post on X, LG Saxena wrote, “Today, I had a courtesy meeting with the Honourable President and conveyed Diwali and Chhath Mahaparv greetings to her. As always, her company was extremely inspiring.”

CM Rekha Gupta Offers Arghya, Visits Ghats Across Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also joined the devotees in offering prayers to the setting sun on the banks of the Yamuna River at Sonia Vihar, extending greetings to people across the city.

“Warm greetings to all of you on the evening Arghya of the great festival of Chhath. Today, while offering Arghya to the setting sun on the banks of the Yamuna in Sonia Vihar, I prayed that the light of happiness, prosperity, and progress may always remain in the life of every Delhiite,” she posted on X.

Calling Chhath a celebration of “discipline, devotion, and folk culture,” the CM said the festival reflects Delhi’s spirit of unity in diversity and “modernity in tradition.”

Visits to Multiple Ghats, Cultural Events Held

CM Gupta first visited Chhath Park in Mangolpuri, where she joined devotees in worship, accompanied by MP Yogendra Chandolia, MLA Rajkumar Chauhan, and State BJP President Virendra Sachdeva.

She later proceeded to Sonia Vihar Pushta on the Yamuna bank, visiting several ghats including the Sports Complex, Ram Ghat, and Shyam Ghat, before concluding her journey at Vasudev Ghat near Kashmiri Gate to offer Arghya to the setting Sun.

A grand cultural programme was held at Vasudev Ghat, featuring folk songs, dances, and traditional performances that added to the festive fervour.

Special Arrangements by Delhi Government

Highlighting the preparations, CM Gupta said that 17 model Chhath ghats have been set up across the Yamuna River — from Palla to Kalindi Kunj — with tents, lighting, sanitation, drinking water, toilets, and medical aid ensured for devotees.

“The Delhi Government is fully committed to making this sacred festival a safe, clean, and dignified experience for the devotees,” the Chief Minister said.

Prominent dignitaries, including MP Manoj Tiwari and Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, were also present at various Chhath events across the capital.
