President Droupadi Murmu addressed a joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the first day of the Budget Session 2026–27 in Parliament, underscoring India’s commitment to social justice, inclusive growth and its emerging role as a bridge of stability in a world beset by conflict.
In an era marked by global tensions and instability, Murmu said India’s actions on international platforms reflect its growing role as a pillar of economic, social and political stability. She emphasized that India’s engagement in global forums such as G7, QUAD, SCO, BRICS and the G20 has helped project India’s voice on issues of importance to the Global South and the world.
Murmu pointed to India’s proactive initiatives including hosting major summits and building strategic partnerships as evidence of its contribution to peace and cooperation amid global conflicts.
While articulating India’s foreign policy stance, Murmu reiterated that the Union government remains firmly committed to true social justice, emphasizing the extension of social security schemes to nearly 95 crore citizens and lifting millions out of poverty through targeted development efforts.
She also noted that the government’s inclusive welfare initiatives particularly for backward, tribal and marginalized communities reflect the constitutional ideals of equality and justice.
President Murmu referenced several domestic milestones, including expansion of social welfare coverage and enhanced infrastructure development, which she said strengthen India’s internal resilience.
On the international front, she highlighted India’s strategic diplomacy and leadership that positions it as a trusted partner and a stabilizing influence in a turbulent world.
