    Preventing mobile and sim misuse

Mobile phones are used by everyone in India, whether rich or poor. Numerous money-making schemes operate through mobile phones, and the new generation is obsessed with them. It’s also a fact that cyber fraudsters misuse the power of mobile phones. Who isn’t aware of the fraudulent calls, hacking of bank accounts, digital arrests and the plight of those duped? Statisticians reveal that India has the highest incidence of cyber fraud in Asia, and it’s also worth noting that India has the least effective resistance. First, complaints are not filed. Even if they are filed, the perpetrators are often caught. Even if they are caught, their sentences remain suspended.

Once the money has been withdrawn from an account, it’s gone; promises made by banks to stop it from falling flat. Now, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), taking cognisance of these fraudulent complaints, has taken action against 2.1 million mobile numbers and 100,000 devices in the past year. TRAI stated that these numbers have been disabled or blacklisted for sending spam and fraudulent messages. TRAI urged that reports of fraudulent numbers be made through the TRAI DND app. Simply blocking the number on the phone does not protect others. Reporting a complaint through the app results in action against the number. Therefore, complaints must be made. It also urged people not to share their personal or banking details, calls, or messages on social media. If you receive a threatening call, disconnect it immediately. Report cyber fraud to the National Cyber Crime Helpline number 1930. TRAI has also assured that additional steps will be taken. If a SIM card is used for illegal activities, the mobile user will be held accountable. Transferring the SIM to others is a crime.
