Prisoner Who Escaped Custody Dies in Police Encounter in Punjab After Allegedly Attacking Constable With Knife Outside Hospital

A prisoner who was brought to the civil hospital for medical treatment died in an encounter with the police in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur on Saturday. On his way back after the medical, the prisoner attacked the policeman with a knife. The prisoner inflicted several blows on the face and hand. After this, as soon as he tried to take the policeman’s revolver, he was fired at in retaliation.

The prisoner has been admitted to the Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur in an injured condition, where he died. The prisoner has been identified as Naseeb.

The accused was lodged in Hoshiarpur jail in a drug smuggling case and is a resident of Kotla Gaunspur in the district. SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik said that the father of the accused, Shashi, is also in jail in the NDPS case. Where did the accused get the knife from, who gave him the knife, is being investigated.

SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik said that as part of the daily procedure, three undertrial prisoners were brought to the hospital for medical examination today. Four police personnel were deployed for their security.
After investigation, Senior Constable Jasdeep Singh was taking the accused Naseeb Singh from an e-rickshaw towards the ambulance. Meanwhile, the accused tried to escape. The accused stabbed senior constable Jasdeep Singh several times with a knife.
Constable Jasdeep Singh suffered serious injuries on his hands, face and legs. After this attack, our employee showed bravery and tried to stop the accused, gave him a stern warning and also fired on the ground in defense.

Firing during the scuffle, the death of the accused: A scuffle started between the two. During the scuffle, both fell to the ground. When the accused tried to snatch the police weapon again, shots were fired in defence. The accused, Naseeb Singh, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The accused was a drug smuggler.

According to the police, the accused, Naseeb Singh, was alone at the time of the incident. Senior Constable Jasdeep Singh, despite being injured, bravely tried to stop the accused. The deceased accused Naseeb Singh had 7 FIRs registered against him under Murder, Attempt to Murder and Drugs (NDPS) and was a convicted offender. His father Shashi is also in jail in a murder and drugs case.
