Congress Workers Raise ‘Bring Channi, Save Punjab’ Slogans During Raja Warring’s Speech at Punjab Congress Meeting in Patiala

Patiala: Signs of internal differences within the Punjab Congress came to the fore during an organisational meeting in Patiala on Friday after a section of party workers raised slogans in support of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi while Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring was addressing the gathering.

The meeting, attended by Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, was organised as part of the party’s campaign to strengthen its booth-level organisational structure across the state.

Slogans Disrupt Organisational Meeting

According to reports, as Raja Warring began his speech, some workers started raising slogans such as “Bring Channi, Save Punjab” and “Bring Channi, Save Congress.” The slogan shouting briefly disrupted the programme.

Raja Warring paused his speech and reportedly warned the slogan-raising workers that disciplinary action would be taken against those disrupting the party’s official programme and damaging its image. Despite the warning, slogan shouting continued, with more workers joining in.

Some Senior Congress Leaders Stay Away

The meeting was also marked by the absence of several senior Congress leaders from Patiala, including MP Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi and four senior district leaders, who reportedly did not attend the event.

The development comes amid reports of differences within the Punjab Congress over the ongoing organisational campaign. Former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa have also remained absent from several campaign-related programmes in recent weeks.

Workers Express Concern Over Internal Differences

Some party workers reportedly expressed concern over the public display of internal differences, saying such incidents could weaken the Congress and benefit rival political parties. Others said the party leadership should pay greater attention to the concerns of grassroots workers while strengthening the organisation.

The incident has once again highlighted the challenges facing the Punjab Congress as it continues its organisational outreach ahead of future political contests.
