Several key proposals, including food and energy approved by UP Cabinet

During a cabinet meeting of the Uttar Pradesh government, several significant proposals related to the Food, Energy, and Urban Development departments were approved. The government has fixed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat at ₹2,585 per quintal—an increase of ₹160 compared to the previous year. Wheat procurement will be conducted across 6,500 centers from March 30 to June 15, 2026.

In the energy sector, ₹2,242.90 crore was sanctioned for the development of a coal mine for the Ghatampur Power Plant. Additionally, a 20-megawatt floating solar plant is set to be established in Gorakhpur. Under the Urban Development initiative, the “Navyug Palika Yojana” was also approved; this scheme will be implemented across 58 district headquarters.

Payment for Unloading and Cleaning Services to be Provided Alongside Wheat MSP

A total of 39 proposals were presented during the cabinet meeting, 37 of which received approval. The state’s farmers remained the primary focus of the meeting. The government has outlined its wheat procurement policy for the upcoming Rabi marketing season, a move expected to directly boost the income of the state’s food producers. Following the cabinet meeting, Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi provided details regarding the decisions taken for the benefit of farmers.

Proposal for a Floating Solar Power Plant in Gorakhpur

As part of the broader effort to transform the state into a solar energy hub, a proposal has been put forward to develop Gorakhpur as a “Solar City” and to establish a 20-megawatt floating solar power plant in the region. Furthermore, discussions are scheduled regarding the promulgation of a new policy—the “Uttar Pradesh State Policy for Safe Reuse of Treated Water (SRTW)-2026” aimed at ensuring the safe reuse of treated water.

Boons for Farmers and Tourism

In the agricultural sector, the wheat procurement policy for the Rabi marketing year 2026-27 has been finalized. Concurrently, the agenda includes a proposal to transfer Lucknow’s historical heritage sites—such as Roshan-ud-Daulah and Chhatar Manzil—to the Tourism Department for development as “Heritage Tourism Units” under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
