Protest Against Adulteration: 80 Liters of Milk Spilled on Road in Amritsar; Uproar Outside DC Office

In the ‘Guru Nagari’ (City of the Guru), dairy complex owners expressed their outrage in a unique manner on Monday against the rampant adulteration of milk and paneer (cottage cheese). Uniting in protest, they poured 80 liters of milk onto the roads in front of the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and the Civil Surgeon.

Karamjit Singh Nangli, President of the Dairy Complex Association, stated that the administration has completely failed to curb the adulteration of milk and paneer within the city. He alleged that while a few individuals are effectively poisoning the public through adulteration, the district administration and the Health Department—instead of taking action against these culprits—merely go through the motions and end up harassing the dairy complex owners instead.

He asserted that the agitation against fake milk and paneer will continue until the administration apprehends these adulterators and takes strict action against them. He further suggested that if the administration were to conduct rigorous, routine inspections—beyond just the festive season—of vehicles transporting milk, paneer, and other dairy products, these adulterators could effectively be brought to heel. Present on the occasion were Bakshish Singh, Varinder Singh, Dilbagh Singh, Ginder Singh, Balraj Singh, Shera, Harpreet Singh, and others.

Campaign to Tighten the Noose on Adulterators: Assistant Commissioner

Rajinder Pal Singh, Assistant Commissioner of the Food Safety Department, stated that the department’s teams conduct inspection drives throughout the year, not just during the festive season. He noted that during the summer months, complaints regarding both the spoilage of milk and paneer, as well as their adulteration, tend to increase. Consequently, a special campaign will be launched with the dual objective of ensuring the availability of safe food products for the public and tightening the noose around those involved in adulteration.
