Chargesheet filed against PU professor in wife murder case: Trial to begin in district court on March 6

Chandigarh: After five years, the legal process in the Seema Goyal murder case has now moved forward. The incident happened on Diwali night in 2021 inside the campus of Panjab University.

The Sector 11 police have filed a charge sheet in the district court against Professor Bharat Bhushan Goyal of the University Business School. The court will hear the case on March 6.

Wife Found Dead on Diwali Night

On Diwali night in November 2021, Seema Goyal was found dead at her PU residence. Her hands and feet were tied, and a cloth was put in her mouth. Police said she died due to strangulation.

At that time, the case looked like a robbery, but many things did not match.

Professor Told Police It Was Robbery

The professor told police that he was sleeping upstairs. In the morning, he found his wife tied up and the door grill cut. He said robbers entered the house and killed her.

But police found that:

The grill was cut from inside.

Nothing was stolen from the house.

His statements did not match the evidence.

This made the police suspicious.

Arrest After Tests

Police questioned him many times over four years. Later, in July 2025, a BEOS test and polygraph test were done.

Based on these reports and other evidence, police arrested him from the PU campus in December 2025 and sent him to jail.

The investigation was done by Chandigarh Police.

Police Found These Suspicious Points

No one saw any stranger entering or leaving the house.

He said robbers locked the house and took the keys, but he opened it with a duplicate key. His daughter said there was no duplicate key.

Cupboards were open, but nothing was stolen.

Forensic team found the grill was cut from inside.

Police also said he called neighbors first instead of calling police.

The case is now in court, and the next hearing will be held on March 6.
