    Panjab University student elections on September 3: Security tightened, Car rallies banned

    Chandigarh, August 26: Student union elections are scheduled to be held in Chandigarh’s Panjab University (PU) and 11 colleges of the city on September 3. Security has been tightened in PU for the elections, as there is often a possibility of chaos here.

    In PU, police and university security are jointly conducting blockades. Both teams are allowing two-wheelers and four-wheelers to enter only after thorough checking. There are three gates to enter the university, and police and security personnel are deployed at all three.

    Vehicles are first checked at the gate, and then a blockade is done again after going inside. There too, vehicles are being thoroughly checked and they are being allowed to enter only after checking the identity card (ID card) of every person sitting in the vehicle. The police is also ensuring that no stick or other weapon of any kind is kept in the vehicle. The university administration and the police are fully alert to conduct the elections peacefully.

    Nomination on August 27

    The admission process will be held on August 27. This information was given by DSW Professor Amit Chauhan during a press conference held at the Student Center of Panjab University. From the 26th, vehicles without stickers will not be allowed to enter. Car rallies have been completely banned in the campus. Permission will have to be taken for gathering of more than five people. Those who take admission till September 2 will be able to vote. During this time, 16,000 students of PU and more than 55,000 students of 11 colleges will vote. The university administration has also implemented the Code of Conduct. Now no one will be allowed to do any kind of demonstration in the campus.

    There will be strict security arrangements

    This time strict security arrangements have been made. Three women officers will be posted as shift incharges in the girls’ hostel. Safety incharges will supervise the different gates. 60 additional staff have been deployed.

    400 Chandigarh Police personnel will also be on duty. Campaigning will be allowed in the girls’ hostel till 9 pm. Campaigning can be done in the boys’ hostel till 10:30 pm. It will be mandatory for all students to keep their I-cards with them. Car rallies will be completely banned. There will be no protest of any kind in the campus. No leader from outside will be able to come and campaign.
