Punjab Allocates ₹1,170 Crore for Welfare of Widows and Destitute Women in 2025–26

Chandigarh: Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that the state government has allocated a budget of ₹1,170 crore under the Financial Assistance Scheme for Widows and Destitute Women for the financial year 2025-26.

Assistance of over ₹593 crore to 6.66 lakh women

Dr. Baljeet Kaur informed that by August 2025, an amount of ₹593.14 crore has been directly transferred to the bank accounts of 6.66 lakh eligible women. She said that the Mann government’s objective is not only to provide financial assistance, but also to empower women with self-reliance and self-confidence.

Beyond financial assistance, emphasis on empowerment

The Minister said that this scheme has been designed to provide hope and stability to women facing difficult circumstances. With this assistance, women are able to better support their families and create a secure future for their children.

Transparency and trust boosted

Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that the government has ensured that assistance funds are disbursed directly to beneficiaries’ accounts without delay. This has increased transparency and strengthened people’s trust in government schemes.

She said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab is steadily progressing towards becoming a socially safe, empowered, and inclusive state.
