Punjab Approves Heritage Street at Anandpur Sahib, Grand Shambhu Welcome Gate to Showcase State’s Rich Legacy

In a major push to preserve and promote Punjab’s cultural and religious heritage, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has approved two landmark projects the revamped Heritage Street at Sri Anandpur Sahib and a grand Welcome Gate at the Shambhu border. The initiatives are expected to enhance the experience of pilgrims and tourists while reinforcing Punjab’s historical, spiritual, and cultural identity.

Reviewing the projects, the Chief Minister said the developments would serve as iconic symbols of Punjab’s glorious heritage and contribute significantly to heritage tourism in the state.

Heritage Street to Transform Pilgrim Experience

The proposed Heritage Street at Sri Anandpur Sahib, one of Sikhism’s most revered spiritual destinations, will connect several historic religious sites, including Qila Sri Anandgarh Sahib, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, and Gurdwara Bhora Sahib.

According to the approved plan, the corridor will begin from the roundabout near Qila Anandgarh Sahib and extend up to the Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Park and adjoining historical gurdwaras. The project aims to create a spiritually enriching and aesthetically appealing environment for devotees and visitors.

Chief Minister Mann stated that the Heritage Street has been designed to strengthen the spiritual and cultural experience of pilgrims while preserving the historic significance of the region. He added that all necessary approvals would be obtained from the concerned departments, including the Union Ministry of Tourism, to ensure smooth implementation of the project.

To oversee its execution, the government will constitute a high-powered committee that will monitor progress and ensure timely completion.

₹12-Crore Shambhu Welcome Gate to Become Gateway Landmark

The state government has also approved the construction of a grand welcome gate at the Shambhu border, which serves as one of the primary entry points into Punjab. The project will be built on the four-lane National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) corridor at an estimated cost of ₹12 crore.

Describing the structure as a symbol of Punjab’s pride and heritage, the Chief Minister said the gate has been carefully designed to blend with the existing highway infrastructure while creating an impressive architectural landmark.

The gateway will feature pillars constructed along the service roads on both sides of the highway, creating a visually striking entrance to the state.

Inspired by Punjab’s Art, Culture and Five Rivers

The design of the welcome gate incorporates several traditional elements that reflect Punjab’s rich artistic and cultural heritage. Features such as stone cladding, intricate FRP work, decorative lattice patterns, and artwork inspired by the traditional Phulkari craft will be integrated into the structure.

A key highlight of the design is its tribute to the historical meaning of the word ‘Panj-Aab’, or the “Land of Five Waters.” The architectural concept, termed the “Rhythm of Five,” will be represented through five domes on either side of the gateway, symbolizing Punjab’s five rivers and its deep-rooted cultural identity.

Chief Minister Mann emphasized that both projects reflect the government’s commitment to preserving Punjab’s religious and historical legacy while creating modern infrastructure that attracts visitors from across the country and abroad.

Cabinet Ministers Harjot Singh Bains and Tarunpreet Singh Sond, along with senior government officials, were present during the meeting where the projects were reviewed and approved.
