Punjab: 3 Arrested, 6 Kg Heroin and 6 Kg ICE Seized

Chandigarh: In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a drug trafficking module with the arrest of three operatives and recovery of 6 kg of heroin and 6 kg of ICE (crystal methamphetamine), said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Partap Singh, a resident of Sursingh Wala village in Ferozepur; Ajaypal Singh, a resident of Kohala village in Amritsar; and Jobandeep Singh, a resident of Khiala Kalan village in Amritsar.

Drugs Smuggled via Drones from Across Border

DGP Yadav said preliminary investigation has revealed that Partap Singh and Ajaypal Singh were in direct contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler.

The accused were allegedly collecting consignments smuggled from across the border with the help of drones from the fenced areas of Atalgarh and Rattan villages in Amritsar. They were further tasked with supplying the narcotics to other parties in the state.

Swift Raid Leads to Arrest

Sharing operational details, the DGP said CI Amritsar received specific intelligence that the accused had recently received a large drug consignment via drone and were on their way to deliver it to their associate Jobandeep Singh near the Water Tank Shamshan Ghat in Padhri village.

Acting swiftly, the CI Amritsar team conducted a raid at the location and arrested all three suspects, recovering six kg heroin and six kg ICE. Police also impounded their black-coloured motorcycle and white-coloured Activa, which were being used to transport the consignment.

FIR Registered, Probe Underway

An FIR has been registered under Sections 21, 22, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar.

The DGP said further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages in the case to expose the entire network, adding that more arrests are expected.
