Punjab Assembly Session: Uproar continues as AAP-Congress clash, censure motion against Congress MLA Khaira

Today is the fourth day of the budget session in the Punjab Assembly. Amid uproar, a censure motion was passed against Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira. The Women’s Commission has also asked Khaira to respond by March 12th.

During Question Hour, a heated debate broke out between the Congress and AAP over the construction of medical colleges. Congress MLA Tript Rajinder Bajwa raised a question, saying, “I asked about government medical colleges, but they’re saying private.” Health Minister Balbir Sidhu responded, “We also provide assistance to private colleges.”

Leader of the Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa asked him to talk about the medical colleges he built. Minister Aman Arora stood up to respond, but Bajwa objected, saying only the Health Minister could answer, not any other minister or party president. The Speaker cited a constitutional provision that states all ministers are accountable for any matter. The uproar continued in the house.

Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that the 75-year-old Leader of the Opposition had used abusive language. He demanded that Bajwa apologize. He has abused our people. He is misbehaving. Bajwa apologizes for Sukhpal Khaira’s post

Finance Minister Harpal Cheema questioned Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira’s post. Cheema said it stated, “Where will you find such heroes who can play pranks for 1,000 rupees?”

Cheema asked, “Will you apologize?” Cheema said, “If we respect women and Dalit women, it doesn’t mean that if the opposition was born with a silver spoon, who gave them the right to insult women?” Meanwhile, Congress Legislature Party Chairman Pratap Bajwa expressed regret over Sukhpal Khaira’s post.

AAP MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann said, “Action should be taken on this matter. They will show how the poor can produce heroes. We will take this issue to the state level and action will be taken in this matter.” After this the Speaker adjourned the House for half an hour.
