Punjab BA Student Dies by Suicide; Body Found 100 km Away from Faridkot, Was Only Son

In Faridkot, a student, distressed by the teacher’s harassment, committed suicide by jumping into a canal. Before dying, he posted on Instagram, writing – The teacher should be punished.

The father said that the teacher humiliated Yogesh Sharma a lot and said that if you do not have the courage to submit your book, then go die under a train or jump into your canal. This had left him troubled. He jumped into the Sirhind canal.

After that, about 100 kilometers from here, his body was found in the Abohar branch coming out of the Sirhind canal. Today, his postmortem is being conducted. The deceased’s father is a tailor master.

In the family, besides the parents, there are two sisters; he was the only son of the family. Meanwhile, according to sources, the police have also caught the accused teacher, although the police have not officially confirmed this yet.

The father told the police these big things

There was a call on April 25: The father of the deceased, Gursevak Pal, a resident of village Sukhanwala, told the police that Yogesh Sharma (21) was studying in BA-1 at Guru Nanak Government College, Guru Tegh Bahadurgarh (Rode College), Moga. On April 25, Yogesh Sharma went to college at 7:30 in the morning, as usual.

Asked 500 rupees from his uncle: He said that around 10:30, Yogesh Sharma told his uncle that he had sent 500/- rupees via Google Pay to get the roll number for the paper because he had to give it to my library in-charge/teacher (Mote Sahib).

Threatened for not submitting books: He said that Yogesh had told his uncle that the teacher said that you should submit the money, and the teacher asked me to submit the books brought to the library, and they are threatening me that if the books are not submitted, the roll number will not be given to you, and your name will be removed from the college.

Teacher said – Jump into the canal and die: He said that Yogesh Sharma had begged his teacher many times that he would submit the books by Monday, but the teacher humiliated Yogesh Sharma and said that if you do not have the courage to submit your book, then you should come under a train or jump into your canal and die.

Body found in Abohar branch: Unable to bear the library teacher’s threat and humiliation, Yogesh Sharma jumped into the Sirhind Canal on 25 April. After that, efforts were made to search for him, but he could not be traced. Later, his body was recovered on 2 May from the Abohar branch near Fazilka district.

Before the suicide, Yogesh had also shared an emotional post on his Instagram ID. In this post, he expressed his pain and wrote that the concerned teacher should be punished and also mentioned missing his family. This post is now going viral on social media.

DSP said- Investigating the matter

DSP Tarlocan Singh informed that a case has been registered against the accused teacher under the relevant sections at Sadar Police Station. He said that the accused will be arrested soon. For now, after the postmortem today, the body will be handed over to the family.
