Punjab braces for chill as mercury dips 5°C; stubble fires surge despite cleaner air

Chandigarh: After the effects of the western disturbance subside in Punjab, temperatures will now drop. According to the Meteorological Center, temperatures are expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees in the next three days. However, there will be no significant change after that. Meanwhile, recent rains have reduced pollution, while approximately 1,300 incidents of stubble burning have been reported in the first five days of November.

According to the Consortium for Research on Agro-Ecosystem Monitoring and Modeling from Space, 1,291 cases of stubble burning have been reported in the state in the last five days. Compared to the previous month and a half, from September 15th to October 31st, 1,642 cases were reported. Stubble burning has increased in the past five days, but only 94 cases were reported on November 5th. This decline may be due to the Guru Nanak Dev Ji Prakash Parv.

According to these data, the highest amount of stubble burning in the last five days was in Sangrur, the home district of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. In the past five days, 245 cases were reported here. Tarn Taran reported 135, Ferozepur 130, Bathinda 109, Mansa and Moga 87 each, Muktsar 73, Patiala 71, Ludhiana 58, and Amritsar 57.

Temperature dropped by 1.6 degrees in 24 hours

Punjab has seen a maximum temperature drop of 1.6 degrees in the past 24 hours. The highest temperature recorded was 31.5 degrees in Mansa. Amritsar recorded 26.4 degrees, Ludhiana 31.2 degrees, Patiala 29.5 degrees, Bathinda 30.5 degrees, Faridkot 27.5 degrees, and Gurdaspur 27 degrees.

The weather will remain clear in the coming days, and no rain is forecast. But for the next three days, the temperature may fall by 3 to 5 degrees.
