Punjab cabinet meeting today: Rules to be amended for flood-affected people

The Punjab Cabinet will meet today at the Chief Minister’s residence, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Rules will be amended to provide relief and compensation to those affected.

The government is also preparing to introduce a new law. 1.99 lakh hectares of crops have been affected by the floods, and the survey work for them is underway. The government may also announce additional relief for affected farmers. Previously, in the cabinet meeting, the government had announced compensation of ₹20,000 per acre.

The meeting will also approve the Assembly session. Furthermore, after failing to receive any relaxations from the central government in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) rules, the government may now announce some relaxations from its share of funds. Previously, the government approved compensation of ₹4 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased.

Floods have caused massive damage, and rehabilitation will now be discussed in the Assembly
The floods have wreaked havoc in the state, affecting 3.89 lakh people in 2,555 villages. Now, preparations are underway to hold a discussion in the Assembly on September 26th regarding the rehabilitation of people. September 27th and 28th will be holidays, and a discussion on the floods may resume on the 29th.

A proposal to amend the rules to help flood-affected people may also be introduced on this day. A bill may also be introduced. The Assembly Secretary has released the schedule for the Assembly session.
