Amritsar: CM Bhagwant Mann attended the important cabinet meeting of the Punjab government today through video conferencing from the hospital. After the meeting which lasted for about two hours, the CM announced the decisions.
Mainly, the government announced a compensation of 20 thousand rupees per acre for the farmers, which the CM said is the highest compensation given by any state. Apart from this, Rs 4 lakh assistance will be given to the families of those who died due to floods.
Farmers have also been given a six-month relaxation in repayment of loans taken from societies or cooperative banks.
In the video message, the CM said, “I am recovering slowly, as soon as I am discharged, I will come among you. I cannot live without people. My pain is very small in front of your pain. Your elected government stands with you at all times.”
Meeting with officers in hospital room
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said through video conferencing after the cabinet meeting, “Sat Shri Akal with love from my side to Punjabis. I am currently admitted in the hospital. Anyone can fall ill, I am also a human being, my health is improving day by day. You must have read and heard the media reports.
I worry about Punjabis all the time from my hospital room. I have called the Chief Secretary and DGP here and held a meeting regarding the damage caused by the floods. Some important decisions have been taken.”
List of decisions of CM Mann
•Permission to remove sand/soil from land – Floods have filled up rivers with soil and sand, due to which the width of many rivers has reduced. The government is coming up with a “Jiski Zameen, Uski Ret” policy. Farmers will be able to extract sand/soil from their land and can also sell it if they want. He said that Beas used to be very wide earlier, but now it has become smaller.
•Crop compensation – A compensation of Rs 20,000 per acre will be given for crop loss. This is the highest compensation given by any state government so far. Compensation cheques will be given directly to the farmers
•Assistance to the families of the deceased – Rs 4 lakh assistance will be given to the family of each person who lost his life in the flood
•Survey of families whose houses have collapsed/washed away – Families whose houses have been destroyed or washed away by water will be surveyed and the government will provide financial assistance as soon as the damage is assessed
•Relief in loan installments – Flood affected people have been given a 6-month exemption in paying the loan installments. They will not have to pay the installments during this period.
•Help to animal and fish farming too – a large number of animals and fish have been lost, the government will compensate for this and a special vaccination campaign will be run for animals
•Health and cleanliness campaign – To prevent diseases after the flood, fogging machines will be installed in about 1700 villages and 300 urban areas. A team of doctors will be sent to every village by setting up clinics, so that medicines and treatment are available to the people nearby.
•Repair of schools, colleges and power infrastructure – The damage caused to educational institutions and power infrastructure due to the floods will be repaired on war footing.
Lakhs of people are affected by the flood
1996, villages in 23 districts of Punjab were affected by the flood. 3,87,013 people have been affected by this. Out of these, 46 people have died. Three people from Pathankot are still missing. Although the Punjab government had earlier called the cabinet but suddenly, CM Bhagwant Mann’s health deteriorated. After this, the CM’s visit was cancelled, and the meeting was also postponed for compensation. After that, he was immediately admitted to the hospital. Now his health is improving.

Due to his health deterioration, the cabinet meeting scheduled for Friday evening was postponed.
