Severe Cold and Dense Fog Grip Punjab and Chandigarh, Orange Alert Issued

Chandigarh: Punjab and Chandigarh are experiencing severe cold. Both days and nights have begun to cool. Both minimum and maximum temperatures have dropped in the past 24 hours. The minimum temperature dropped by 2.3 degrees. Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar was the coldest with a temperature of 4.4 degrees.

While the plains of Patiala recorded the lowest maximum temperature, an orange alert for dense fog and cold wave conditions has been issued across the state today (Sunday). Dense fog may persist for some time during the morning and night.

Zero visibility in many cities

According to the Meteorological Department, a cold wave was recorded in Adampur, and very dense fog was recorded in Amritsar, Adampur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh. Visibility was zero in Amritsar and Jalandhar, while it was reduced to 40 meters in Patiala, 50 meters in Ludhiana, 50 meters in Gurdaspur and Ballowal Saukri, and 20 meters in Chandigarh. This has also affected flight and train services.

Western disturbance reaches the mountains

According to the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance has reached Jammu and Kashmir, causing snowfall there. Another will reach the Himalayan region by December 30th, raising the possibility of snow and rain. Clouds have now settled over Punjab and Chandigarh, preventing significant temperature changes. However, winds will likely blow. Light drizzle is possible in some areas of Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, and Amritsar.

Today the weather will be like this in the entire state

According to the Meteorological Department, today there is a possibility of very dense fog at some places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Barnala, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, SAS Nagar (Mohali). Whereas there will be very dense fog and cold wave at some places in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana. There is a possibility of dense fog and cold wave at Ferozepur, Faridkot and Moga. There will be dense fog at some places in Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda, Mansa. The weather is likely to remain dry.

Temperature may rise for three days

The weather is expected to remain dry for the next 7 days. There will be no significant change in minimum temperatures in the state for the next 48 hours, while thereafter, temperatures may gradually increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next 3 days.

December 29 – According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of dense fog at some places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Muktsar, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Rupnagar and SAS Nagar (Mohali). There is a possibility of dense fog and cold wave at some places in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Moga, Bathinda and Hoshiarpur.

Apart from this, there may be very dense fog and cold wave at some places in Kapurthala, Jalandhar and Ludhiana. Whereas there is a possibility of dense to very dense fog at some places in Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala. The weather is likely to remain dry.

December 30 – According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog is likely at isolated places in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and SAS Nagar (Mohali). The weather is expected to remain dry.

December 31 – According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog is likely at isolated places in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and SAS Nagar (Mohali). The weather is expected to remain dry.
