Cold Wave Persists in Punjab and Chandigarh Despite Slight Rise in Temperatures

Chandigarh: Despite a slight increase in temperatures in Punjab and Chandigarh, the cold weather has not subsided. The state’s average minimum temperature has risen by 0.4 degrees, bringing it closer to normal. However, the weather is expected to remain dry until December 13th. Rain is not expected.

Adampur was the coldest place in Punjab with a temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius, while Bathinda recorded the highest temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius.

Cold winds will blow for two days

According to the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is currently lingering in the region bordering Pakistan, affecting the weather. The cold is steadily increasing, and the morning and evening chills have increased. Icy winds will blow across the state on December 9th and 10th.

The minimum temperature in the state is expected to range between four and six degrees Celsius this week. Temperatures may be significantly below normal in northern and southern parts. The Chandigarh administration has already issued an advisory regarding this.

Punjab and Chandigarh’s air is polluted

The air quality in Punjab hasn’t improved since the rice harvest season ended. Experts predict it will improve after rain. Amritsar’s AQI at 6 am was 109. Similarly, Bathinda’s AQI was 78, Jalandhar’s AQI 133, Khanna’s AQI 163, and Ludhiana’s AQI 111.

Mandi Gobindgarh recorded an AQI of 253, Patiala 130, Chandigarh Sector 22 155, Sector 25 154, and Sector 53 135. People are advised to wear masks to avoid respiratory illnesses.
