Punjab, Chandigarh on Dense Fog Alert as Temperatures Drop Further

Chandigarh: Fog is increasing in Punjab and Chandigarh along with Kand. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in 13 districts of the state today (December 14). Visibility is expected to be reduced due to fog, so people have been advised to be alert.

The alert districts include Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar and Ludhiana.

Slight increase in night temperatures

The minimum temperature in the state has increased by about 2 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours. Adampur remained the coldest place in the state, with the minimum temperature remaining at 6.8 degrees.
On the other hand, Bathinda experienced the hottest night, with a minimum temperature of 12 degrees. Ludhiana recorded a temperature of 7.8 degrees, Chandigarh 8.5 degrees, Patiala 8.8 degrees, Pathankot 8.9 degrees and Amritsar 10.3 degrees. Mohali recorded a minimum temperature of 11.8 degrees.

Daytime temperatures increase

Day temperatures are also falling, which may continue till December 20. The maximum temperature in all districts of the state has fallen by 0.9 to 2 degrees.

Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 21.6 degrees, a drop of 2.3 degrees. Amritsar recorded 18.4 degrees (a drop of 3.7 degrees), Ludhiana 20 degrees and Patiala 21.5 degrees. Pathankot recorded a maximum temperature of 18.3 degrees, a significant drop of 5.9 degrees.

Pollution fears rise

According to the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is present over North Pakistan and adjoining areas, but it is currently weak. The decrease in wind speed may increase the pollution levels.

Weather to change from December 17 and 21

A new western disturbance will become active from December 17, due to which the sky will remain cloudy and the minimum temperature is likely to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.

However, a second western disturbance is expected to become active after December 21, which may further increase the cold.
