Punjab: The strike by Punjab and Chandigarh roadways employees has been postponed following government intervention.
Strike Postponed Until October 31
The strike called by the Roadways, PUNBUS, and PRTC contract worker unions in Punjab and Chandigarh has been postponed.
Following a meeting at the depot premises, the workers decided to delay their strike until October 31, after the government halted the bus tender process.
Union leaders warned that if the government fails to provide a permanent solution by the 31st, buses would be stopped without prior notice, and highways could be suddenly blocked.
Protests Across Punjab
Roadways employees staged protests across the state, including blocking the national highway in Ludhiana and lying under buses in Amritsar.
During the Amritsar blockade, there was a scuffle between employees and police. Employees took to the highway, shouting slogans, and several even lay down under buses.
In Jalandhar, police surrounded the depot before the protest began, preventing employees from leaving, which led to a sit-in inside the depot.
Situation Stabilizes After Talks
The situation in Chandigarh has returned to normal following discussions between government officials and union representatives. Security remains tight in Ludhiana and Amritsar to prevent any untoward incidents.
