Rain, thunderstorms likely in Punjab-Chandigarh from Mar 14

The weather across Punjab and Chandigarh is expected to change significantly in the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting rain and thunderstorms from March 14 onwards. After several days of dry and warmer-than-normal conditions, the expected showers may bring some relief from rising temperatures in the region.

According to meteorological data, temperatures in parts of Punjab have been around 6.3°C above the seasonal average, indicating a noticeable warming trend during early March.

Sunshine and Warm Conditions Today

At present, most districts of Punjab and the Chandigarh region are witnessing clear skies and bright sunshine. The weather remained largely dry over the past 24 hours, with daytime temperatures continuing to stay above normal levels.

Weather officials reported that maximum temperatures across the state are significantly higher than usual, reflecting early summer-like conditions in several areas. In fact, the average maximum temperature in the state is around 6.3°C above the normal level, which is considered a marked deviation for this time of the year.

Due to this increase, people have already begun experiencing warmer afternoons, especially in urban areas like Chandigarh, Ludhiana, and Amritsar.

Rain and Thunderstorms Expected from March 14

Meteorologists predict that the weather pattern will change due to a western disturbance affecting North India. As a result, isolated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in many parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh between March 14 and March 16.

The IMD has also indicated that gusty winds of around 30–40 km/h may occur during this period, especially during thunderstorm activity. These weather changes could bring brief but noticeable cooling in daytime temperatures.

Possible Impact on Temperature

With the arrival of rain and cloud cover, meteorologists expect temperatures to gradually drop by about 2–4°C in the region. The showers may provide relief from the current heat conditions that have developed earlier than usual in March.

However, before the rainfall begins, warm and sunny conditions are likely to continue across the region for the next couple of days.

Authorities have advised residents and farmers to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins. Sudden thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds may affect outdoor activities and agricultural work.
