Punjab to Witness Dry Weather Till February 28; Day Temperatures to Rise by 3–4°C

Punjab and Chandigarh are expected to experience dry weather from Monday until February 28, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). No significant weather activity is forecast during this period, although light to moderate fog may occur at isolated locations.

Officials said there will be no major fluctuations in minimum temperatures over the coming days. However, maximum temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next week.

Day Temperatures Already Above Normal

Over the past 24 hours, the average temperature has increased by 0.7°C and remains 3.7°C above normal for this time of year.

The highest temperature of 27.9°C was recorded at Bhakra Dam. Other cities also reported relatively warm daytime conditions:

• Chandigarh: 27.2°C

• Amritsar: 25.9°C

• Ludhiana: 26.8°C

• Patiala: 27.4°C

Minimum temperatures across the region ranged between 8°C and 13°C.

Dense Fog Recorded in Amritsar

On Sunday morning, dense fog was recorded in Amritsar, reducing visibility to less than 150 metres and causing inconvenience to commuters. However, clear skies and sunshine later in the day helped temperatures climb to between 25.4°C and 27.9°C in various parts of the state.

No Major Change in Night Temperatures

According to Surender Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department in Chandigarh, the state is likely to remain dry. Light to moderate fog may appear in some areas.

He added that minimum temperatures are expected to remain stable over the next five days, while maximum temperatures will gradually increase by 3–4°C over the next seven days.
