Punjab & Chandigarh Weather Update: Clear Skies Today, Rain from Tomorrow Night

Punjab and Chandigarh will experience clear weather on Sunday on the occasion of Shivratri. Cold winds blowing from the hills are expected to weaken, leading to a halt in the recent drop in temperatures.

Daytime temperatures are gradually rising, signaling the slow end of the winter season.

New Western Disturbance from February 16

A new Western Disturbance is likely to become active over northwest India from February 16, 2026. Due to its impact, light rainfall is expected in parts of Punjab on February 17 and 18.

Districts that may receive light showers include:

• Faridkot

• Muktsar

• Bathinda

• Mansa

• Barnala

• Sangrur

• Patiala

• Ludhiana

• Moga

Some areas may also witness light thunder and lightning activity.

Temperature Update: Winter Fading Gradually

Over the past 24 hours, there has been no significant change in maximum temperatures across the state. However, temperatures remain 3.8°C above normal.

• Highest Maximum Temperature: 26.4°C recorded at Nangal Dam

• Maximum Temperature Range: 23.1°C to 26.4°C

• Minimum Temperature Range: 7.7°C to 11.5°C

Due to the rising minimum temperatures, nights are becoming less chilly, although mild cold persists during early mornings and evenings.

IMD Director’s Statement

According to Surender Pal Singh, Director of the Meteorological Department, light rainfall may occur in isolated areas on February 17 and 18. Thunderstorms are also possible in some districts.

Minimum temperatures are expected to remain stable over the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual increase of 2–3°C in the coming days.
