Punjab CM Welcomes PM Modi’s visit, hopes for relief package for flood-hit State

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to visit the flood-affected regions of the state tomorrow.

In his social media post on X, Mann shared his health condition had prevented him from personally accompanying the Prime Minister during the visit. “Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji is coming to Punjab tomorrow, I welcome him. My health is not good, otherwise I would have personally come and arranged for him to inspect all the flood-affected areas,” he said.

Expressing hope that the Prime Minister’s visit would bring much-needed assistance to the state, Mann added: “I hope that Prime Minister Ji will leave after announcing some good package or declaration to provide relief to Punjab and Punjabis for the damage caused by this natural disaster.”

Punjab has witnessed extensive flooding in recent weeks, leaving thousands of acres of farmland submerged, damaging crops, and displacing families in several districts. The state government has already announced a compensation of ₹20,000 per acre for affected farmers and permitted them to remove and sell silt deposited by the floods.

The Chief Minister said that while the state government was doing everything possible within its means, central support was vital to help farmers and residents recover from the devastation.

Officials said security and administrative arrangements have been stepped up ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, with special focus on ensuring he can review the situation in the worst-hit districts.
